Simi Čekovská, 2026.
There are paintings that linger long after you have stepped away from them. John Singer Sargent’s Madame X was one of those for me. It stayed with me for months, slowly unfolding in my mind, until I finally felt the need to reinterpret it in my own way. From the iconic portrait of a solitary woman emerged a new work in which solitude gives way to closeness, and distance softens into trust. The two female figures create a story of mutual support, empathy, and the kind of safe space women can create for one another.
At the heart of the painting is not a specific relationship, but the idea of connection between women. One viewer may see a mother and daughter, another two sisters or close friends. Each person is free to bring their own story to the work. In the end, who these women are matters less than what exists between them: trust, closeness, support, and a quiet sense of understanding. For me, this sense of belonging is one of the most subtle, yet most powerful expressions of femininity.

With dimensions of 32.9 × 45 cm, the print works beautifully as a striking standalone piece or as part of a thoughtfully curated arrangement of artworks. Its format gives it enough presence to naturally draw the eye on any wall.
It is produced using Fine Art printing with pigment inks on premium art paper, preserving the depth of colour, subtle details, and distinctive character of the original work, bringing gallery-quality art into your home.
COLLECTION
How Old Are You? is my first limited-edition print collection, created to mark my 33rd birthday. For a long time, there has been an unspoken rule that women should avoid saying their age out loud, as though a number could somehow diminish their value or strength. I chose to challenge that idea and turn the number 33 into a symbol of a new chapter in my artistic practice. The collection features five motifs, each released in a limited edition of just 33 prints. It is a celebration of femininity at every age and a reminder that age does not define a woman. It is simply one of the many layers that make up her unique story.
