PAINTING MOTIFS OF FEMALE FIGURES
MY PHILOSOPHY
Simi Čekovská is a self-taught abstract and figurative painter with no formal art education. Her work has grown out of her independent study of art history, daily painting practice, and an instinctive need to tell stories through canvas.
In her work, she connects inspiration drawn from classical art with a contemporary perspective on the role of women. She takes iconic compositions by renowned painters as her starting point, but does not treat them merely as references to the past. Instead, she uses them to create new meanings and narratives in which women are given their own voice, inner strength, and the space to become the central protagonists of their own stories.
Her paintings are characterised by simplified forms, muted colour palettes, and an emphasis on emotion expressed through posture, gesture, or gaze. At first glance, they appear calm, yet beneath the surface unfolds a dialogue about freedom, identity, relationships, education, and personal responsibility. The symbolism in her work remains deliberately open, allowing each viewer to form their own interpretation. Although her practice is rooted in the female experience, it is not solely about women. It speaks to humanity, the courage to live authentically, and the inner transformations that shape us all.
Before dedicating herself fully to painting, she studied Marketing and Commerce at the University of Economics in Bratislava. Today, this perspective naturally intersects with her artistic practice. She believes that meaningful art deserves not only to be created, but also to find its way to the people it can resonate with.
Her works are held in private collections in Slovakia and abroad.
INTRODUCING THE COLLECTION
“How old are you?” It is a question that still feels strangely sensitive when asked of women. As if age were something to avoid, play down, or simply leave unspoken. For a long time, there has been an unwritten rule that a woman does not talk about her age, and a man does not ask.
I decided to do exactly the opposite.
In February, I turned 33. And I am grateful for every one of those years. For everything they have brought me and taught me, for the people I have met, and for the courage they have gradually helped me build. I did not want to let this moment pass quietly. I wanted to name it, share it, and celebrate it out loud.
That is how my first collection of limited-edition art prints, How Old Are You?, came to life.
The collection features five motifs based on five paintings I created. They portray women from different generations. Each is different, carrying her own story, her own experience, her own way of seeing the world. And yet they share so much: sensitivity, strength, vulnerability, the desire to be seen, and the right to be fully themselves at every stage of life.
Each motif is released in a limited edition of 33 prints. The number 33 has become a small signature of the collection, a reminder of a new chapter in both my life and my work.
In my paintings, I draw on historical motifs, but view them through a contemporary lens. I give women, who throughout art history were so often left in the role of silent muses, the space to step into the centre of the story. With a voice, a perspective, and a story of their own.
How Old Are You? is a celebration of women at every age. A celebration of femininity that has no single form and no one “right” stage of life. A celebration of women who are beautiful, strong, uncertain, courageous, calm, or untamed, in their twenties, thirties, seventies, and every year that follows.
Age is just a number. May this artwork on your wall remind you every day that every year of your story is worth celebrating.
EXHIBITIONS

To me, a painting is never a closed story. On the canvas, what we already know meets what we gradually discover within it. It creates space for a moment when the viewer enters the work with their own experience and begins to uncover personal connections. It is precisely in this tension between what is shown and what remains unspoken that space opens up for emotion, questions, and individual interpretation.
PAUSE FOR A MOMENT. WATCH AS THE PAST TRANSFORMS INTO THE PRESENT. DISCOVER A NEW STORY HIDDEN WITHIN EVERY PAINTING.
