My inspiration came from Artemisia Gentileschi’s Penitent Mary Magdalene, in which the biblical figure is portrayed as a woman immersed in quiet contemplation, almost verging on melancholy. In my own painting, I retain the distinctive composition and the gentle gesture of the bowed head, while shifting the emotional tone of the work. Rather than sorrow, I bring a sense of fragility and calm to her expression. The inner tension present in the original is transferred instead to the intense red that fills the surrounding space.
Artemisia Gentileschi is regarded as one of the most important painters of the Italian Baroque. As one of the first professional female artists of her time, she built a successful international career. I am fascinated by the sensitivity with which she captured the inner lives of women and gave space to their emotions at a time when their voices so often remained at the margins. It was precisely this psychological depth, and her ability to tell women’s stories through paint, that accompanied me throughout the creation of this work.
With dimensions of 32.9 × 45 cm, the print works beautifully as a striking standalone piece or as part of a thoughtfully curated arrangement of artworks. Its format gives it enough presence to naturally draw the eye on any wall.

COLLECTION
How Old Are You? is my first limited-edition print collection, created to mark my 33rd birthday. For a long time, there has been an unspoken rule that women should avoid saying their age out loud, as though a number could somehow diminish their value or strength. I chose to challenge that idea and turn the number 33 into a symbol of a new chapter in my artistic practice. The collection features five motifs, each released in a limited edition of just 33 prints. It is a celebration of femininity at every age and a reminder that age does not define a woman. It is simply one of the many layers that make up her unique story.
